Monday Memories-our little trip down memory lane
It was a normal part of my husband’s work routine to take one or two dogs with him for a ride. Then when his job changed, he was unable to. So when I awoke one morning to find that Chance was on an errand with my husband I wasn’t surprised until I walked into the Front Dogs area and felt an eerie sensation. Chance was gone. It struck me so deep I felt the need to search for him. To try and “find” him, because he was “lost.” His absence felt so big at that moment that I didn’t know what to do. I felt an emptiness that I didn’t know how to grasp. I kept catching my breath. I knew he was with my husband and that he was safe, but I couldn’t help feeling that hollowed out chunk in my gut. It was spooky.
Even writing this down two years later still creeps me out.
Have you ever felt that ‘lost dog‘ sensation even when you knew where your dog(s) were?

I have actually felt it!!! One time I did not realize that LadyBug had followed me into the laundry room and I inadvertently closed the door behind me....I was running around like a crazy woman looking and calling....she never made a sound! When I opened the door, I was SO happy to find her!!! It IS very scary!!
Oh yes, several times one of us has gone missing and caused total freak out for Mom, only to be discovered stuck in the garage or basement behind a closed door. Talk about getting the adrenalin moving.

I know this feeling and it is terrifying!
Yes! It's hard to explain, but it is the most terrifying thing to feel.

.,I knew the feeling like that. My dog once was lost and I felt so empty and terrified.,so I did my best to find him.

Yes! This happened to me 2 years ago when we sent Sherman to a show without us! It was the worst feeling ever and I will never send him anywhere again!
Nothing takes away that terror until you can once again wrap your arms around the precious one and solidly reassure yourself that all is well. One time Steve took the garbage from the yard to put at the curb, and Siku still a pup snuck after him through the gate. He did not even know she was outside. Suddenly I was frantically overcome with a "Where is Siku?" feeling and could not find her anywhere. Steve joined the hunt. We finally found her curled up under the bench on the front steps waiting to be let in the front door...she never barked or responded to our calls. I still get tight in the chest thinking about it!
Yes, I have had one of the dogs get caught between the storm door and the basement door several times. It's always been one of the little dogs that can easily get missed. But, it never takes long to know one is missing. Even a small dog leaves a big empty space when they aren't there!
I have had this panicked feeling when Fred has been in the fenced yard that I know he can't get out of but I can't see him! It's an awful feeling!
It's that same eerie, awful, panicky feeling when you notice one of them is not right there. You know there is no way they could get out or escape, but you can't find them so your mind starts fleeting and your voice starts calling out frantically...and when the tears begin to fill your eyes and your heart feels like it's going to burst, you then discover the missing furbaby hiding under the deck steps totally ignoring your or investigating the downstairs laundry room and playing deaf to the frantic calls...(shiver)...hate that feeling! But you are SO happy to see them all you can do is hug and kiss them!
