Monday Memories- our weekly trip down memory lane...
Today's story-Winter 2009 Blaze and Zappa around a year old.
Imagine this view full speed ahead of you
The exhilaration rushes through my body as the blast from the icy winds hits my face. The biting cold attacks my fingers instantly. How do I always forget my gloves? Hanging on for dear life, there is no time to think. I don't even know how I made it on the sled! In the glint of the sun's rays I watch ahead as my two little almost Huskies take to the thrill of the pull. Their exuberance is intoxicating. Running in synchronized union. Their fur bristling in the excitement of running free. They never once question the pull. A frozen grin is plastered across my face as the whoosh of the skis to snow races through my ears. This is DOG SLEDDING!! Their movements are effortless and graceful. So fluid, you would never know I was there. The middling incline does nothing to slow them. A voice from a rooftop calls out, "That looks like fun!" I holler back between breaths and a smile, "It is!" Never more proud of my little champions who are running like the wind. It was my first ride with two dogs and it still takes my breath away when I think of it.
Well all glories must come to end. When they turned the corner they had expended all of their energy with that fresh burst. As we struggled with exhaustion, confusion and lack of training, turning to come home proved to be quite a challenge. Ahhh, the life of a beginning dog sledder. Taking in the thrills and spills, I still soar on the high of that breathtaking ride when I witnessed those canine souls come into their own. Awaken by their natural instincts thriving in the paws of their ancestors before. A moment that still ignites that fire-icy feeling that will burn forever in my heart and until the end of time. Yes, my friends THAT is dog sledding!

What an exhilarating story. I'm wore out! I think I need a nap now!
I hope you get lots of snow this winter to make lots of new memories.
Can't wait to read about them all.
That's very nice! Living in sunny tropical Singapore, one can only imagine! Thanks for sharing it with us and hope you get lost of snow for sledding!!
Cheers,
Maxxs
very cool, I'm sure!
It is like an awakening!
I've dog sledded just once, and I know the feeling that you're talking about. It must be even more intense when it's your own dogs pulling!
I'm sure that is an unbelievable thrill! I wish we had a place around here where we could combine dog sledding and hiking.
OMD, how furry cool!
fun, fun, FUN! What a trip that must be.
