A Day at the Park

We had a break from the heat and blaring sun, early morning thunderstorms, then heavy clouds and rain on and off through the day.  It was heaven!  I took the opportunity to take a couple of the dogs to the park in the afternoon and it was a nice break in the action, as we usually wait until sunset for our walks.

I took Brut first.  We were in dire need of some alone time together.  The park is hardly used except for baseball and soccer games and on a day like today we were alone.  Brut and I had our own agendas for our walk.  I became lost in my thoughts as he sniff every ounce of information that lay on the trail.  We jogged most of the way and fell into an easy motion with each other.  Natural and comfortable we enjoyed the pace and place and being alone together.  Sometimes it is nice just to be together and appreciate the other's company without feeling the need for a deep sense of connection.  To just be.  Together.  We both had a hard time leaving.  Not five minutes after we got home, it down poured.  Our timing couldn't have been better.

After a bite and a little rest, I took Blaze to the park.  Do you ever feel that there is one dog that you are still getting to know?  Blaze is one of those dogs for me. Blaze likes to move quickly so I jogged/walked through the trails with her, as I was a little wore from jogging with Brut.  She fell right in sync with me and I think she appreciated the extra pace.  She probably would have liked to sniff around a little more, but she kept right up with me.  I haven't tried to jog with her before since I have just really started working with her on leash training, but she did fantastic.  Since I am in an experimental phase with Blaze and trying to find that little niche that is just her, I keep trying different things.  Jogging through the park trails seemed to work for her and she did fantastic.  She never tried to pull or zip in another direction she stayed right with me.  Maybe jogging together will be part of the key, that is if my weary knees will hold out!!

The day started pretty hot for us too but then around noon, it started to rain heavily for about 2hours then stopped. Now its cloudy again but we could feel the humidity...:( which is soo uncomfortable.
That's great about the jog together. Hope it works out for the both of you!

Cheers,
Maxx

Nice to have that special time with each of the pups. We are still waiting for our break from the heat. We hit 110 yesterday and it is supposed to be more like 95 today but with a higher humidity.Hard to believe it will be 15 degrees cooler and yet still so hot.

Hope you get to walk/jog again today.

I feel like I am still getting to know my dog every day. Sometimes I'll think I have her pegged and then she'll do something crazy - like ignore another dog - and I'll have no idea what to expect next.

Coincidentally, we got caught in a huge thunderstorm on our walk yesterday. The kind where all you can do is laugh as you are soaked within seconds. I had fun! I don't know that Shiva did...

We would LOVE a thunderstorm right now! We wanna go play, but Mom won't leave the house until it cools off some later today.

Sounds like you've had some wonderful walks with your friends lately.

I've gotten lots of advice on stopping your dog from pulling. The one thing no one ever advises is to speed up--sometimes we're just to slow for our dogs.

I think it's great that you got to run with Blaze. She probably loved going at a faster pace.

As I read about you and Blaze, all I could think of was Morgan, thinking, if I lull them into a false sense of security, I'll be able to take down that rabbit when the opportunity arises! I really think her mind works that way!

I think we had the same storm last night. It cooled things off slightly thanks goodness.

Thanks for your good wishes for my sister.

As we well know, one on one time is vital to the mental health of the pack and to fostering better closer relationships with each pup. We marvel at each personality as it comes out to shine when in the solo spotlight...and it helps us understand the true nature of the furbaby in every situation. It sounds like you had two separate wonderful moments today.

That is really nice. I wish we had a dog park around us. I wish Blaze could motivate me to jog!

Sounds like a lovely day! I wish I could jog with Bella... she's more into running in a zig zag pattern however...

I am sure that drinking water made you feel relieve from the heat of the sun
